WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SIXTH FORM
The Sixth Form is a vibrant body of students who continue to develop talents in many areas, both academically and socially. They have a wide variety of subjects to choose from including Pyschology, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Education, Applied ICT, Business Studies, Geography, History, Photography, Marine Science, English Literature, English Language, French, German, Spanish, Performing Arts, Global Perspectives, English as a Foreign Language and Art, giving students the opportunity to reach the highest academic level in their chosen studies.
Our results are always excellent and well above the UK national average, with some of our students achieving Top in the World and Top in the Spain Awards which are given by the Cambridge Examination Board and the Edexcel Examination Board. Our former students study at universities all over the world and accomplish great things in the workplace.
English is the official language at The Lady Elizabeth School. Sixth Form studies are complemented by the Spanish Curriculum with the following subjects taught in preparation for the ‘Fase Voluntaria de la PAU (Prueba de Competncias Especificas PCE): Economía de la empresa, Fundamentos del arte, Lengua Castellana y Literatura, Matemáticas Puras, Matematicás aplicadas, Física, Biología, Química, Geografía, Historia del Arte and Dibujo Técnico.
Entrance to 6th Form
Students should have achieved at least 5 GCSE passes, grade C, (new grade 4 or 5), or above, to start 6th Form studies. AS and A Level subjects are highly academic and very demanding. Many subject teachers will make recommendations on specific GCSE subjects and require B grades or higher. We aim to make sure students choose the right programme to ensure success and achieve the A Level grades necessary for the future.
An International Community with Global Aspirations
Our students have gone on to study a very broad range of subjects including Medicine, Art and Design, Neuro-science, Nano technology, Criminology, Law, Engineering, to name but a few.
Students who left in the summer of 2020 are currently studying at universities in Spain, UK (including Russell Group universities) and throughout Europe.
Gap year students enhance their curriculum by activities such as travelling to gain work experience or learn another language. Some choose to concentrate on perfecting their skills in Sport or Music. Others undertake voluntary work throughout the world.
University requirements vary from one country to another. Many adopt a holistic approach to the application and want to see evidence of genuine interest and commitment to their subject as well as the academic capacity to study at university level. The personal statement and reference are a very important part of the applications and we are very aware of the need to have more than just academic success.
Students must learn to organise their time in Sixth Form. They have to become independent learners as well as be able to work as part of a team. They must be able to take responsibility, develop leadership qualities and speak in public. The school tutorial system, House activities, mentoring, sports and performing arts encourage students to develop a broad range of skills, adding to those acquired in the classroom.
The School Flagship
Sixth Form students are seen by many of the younger pupils as inspiration for the future. It is their responsibility to set a good example at all times in their behaviour, dress and attitude.
Although no longer of compulsory school age they are expected to attend all their lessons every day between 08.55 and 16.30, as though they were working. The Dress Code, set by Senior Pupils, must be respected at all times.
The relationship between teachers and students is one of collaboration and teamwork in order for students to attain the best all-round academic, social and personal profile for the future. By the time students leave Laude the Lady Elizabeth School they should be ready for the ever-changing world outside. Our aim is that they become Global Professionals through their chosen path of Higher Education, Apprenticeships, Work and/or Travel.
