WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY
At Secondary Level, the exposure to such a variety of subjects allows the pupils to sample different aspects of education and to start planning their professional lives. Students follow the British Curriculum strengthened by the opportunity to also study the Spanish Curriculum (Lengua y Literatura, Valenciano and Ciencias Sociales). Spanish, German and French are studied throughout Key Stage 3 as ‘Modern Foreign Languages’ and are offered as an option at GCSE and A Level. First Language German is also taught during Key Stage 3 and is offered at GCSE and A Level.
In Key Stage 3 pupils are placed in English, Maths and Science groups according to their academic ability. This ensures that each individual pupil can be stretched and supported at the appropriate level at this crucial stage of their academic development. Support is also offered to pupils with certain learning difficulties.
In Year 9, many subjects introduce GCSE study topics to prepare and guide students to choose the right courses for their GCSE years.
In Year 10, pupils start their two year GCSE Course. English, Mathematics, one Science subject and Spanish are compulsory. There are many optional subjects available, such as History, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Business Studies, Media Studies, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Music, ICT, French, German and Art.
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) helps our non-English students to gain an excellent knowledge of the English Language in every aspect. Pupils who enter the School with a minimal understanding of English are soon able to communicate with their fellow pupils and the teaching staff. EFL students are encouraged to take Cambridge Examinations throughout the year from A2 to C2 levels (First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency).
Careers advice is given readily and Year 10 students have the opportunity to visit local and international companies to witness first hand a variety of professions. This will help them making their future subject choices.
The Tutor Group follows a personal, social and health education programme which includes our Value of the Month, and pupils participate in activities based on values like Respect, Honesty, Tolerance, Achievement etc. Every pupil is assigned to a School House and we are proud of our House tradition, which contributes to the students’ sense of belonging. Many charity and sporting events are organised within the Houses which gives pupils across all age ranges the chance to mix and be involved in varied fun pursuits together as a team.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
