Sixth Form Option Blocks

Subject Options
In the sixth form subjects are blocked on the timetable. Students are therefore unable to choose more than one subject from any one block. It is usual for most students to commence year 12 studying four subjects and then complete three of them in year 13.
The following is our first version of the blocks for the coming year. We can make some changes in the forthcoming weeks but the blocks must be finalised by Easter. If students have any particular requests or requirements we need to know them as soon as possible. Please remember, it is impossible to produce a set of option blocks to suit everybody.

Sixth Form Blocks 2011-2012
Subjects are blocked for timetable purposes and, in general, two subjects cannot be chosen from the same block as they would clash on timetable. However, there are exceptions and sometimes there is flexibility within the timetable. 1st September: New year 12 students sign up for their AS level courses between 1000-1400hrs
6th September: All sixth form students in school for sixth form induction day. Year 13 students should bring copies of their AS module examination results ready to sign up for A2 courses.
7th September: years 7-11 only

UCAS meeting for parents: as promised last term there will be a repeat of the meeting held for parents to inform them of how the university applications system works for entrance to British universities. The date of this meeting will be announced on the 6th of September.

Dress Code:

While 6th Form students are not expected to wear uniform, they are nevertheless expected to dress smartly.

Please remember also that the school has a No Smoking policy.

After discussions in tutorials the following dress code has been agreed and must be adhered to next year Boys: Smart trousers, plain polo t-shirt or short sleeved shirt (summer) Smart trousers with shirt and jumper or jacket (winter) Smart shoes Girls: Smart trousers, skirt or ¾ length trousers with blouse; Dress; or long top with black leggings. Smart shoes or sandals. NONE of the following: jeans (of any colour), mini skirts/dresses, strappy or revealing tops, sportswear (including trainers), shorts, flip-flops Keep it smart and simple, save the trendy outfits for the weekend!

Summer Holidays
Year 12 going into year 13 should try to get relevant work experience in preparation for applications for universities and work. All students should spend time researching university courses, do not leave it to September as the A level modules will be more demanding than the AS ones last year. UCAS applicants should be working on their personal statements. The UCAS programme is now running for entry 2011, our login code for the school site is mwrocksok so students can start filling in application forms during the holidays. Please adhere to the 15th October deadline where relevant and remember it takes approximately one week from when I receive the form to the date when it is sent to UCAS. All forms should be sent to UCAS by 30th November to have a realistic chance of success, there will be tough competition for places next year.
